PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear Fellow Rotarians,

Membership is one of the three essential elements of Rotary besides foundation and branding.  We have started the new Rotary year on July 1, 2021 with 2,812 members and 70 Clubs.  We are happy to see that many clubs already are inducting new members - including our own!
This year our Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta has posed a challenge for all Rotarians to help grow Rotary membership.  Let's all pitch in and invite your friends and business associates to come and check us out and consider joining our local Rotary Club because "we have fun and we get the job done in our community!"

Sincerely,

Don Hall
President

Club News

Thanks to all who supported and participated in the Solar Challenge Celebration.
Our goal was to raise enough to raise enough money ($10 per project light) to fund 50 solar lights to match the 50 solar lights promised by club member Diana McDermott…and we exceeded that goal!
The final number of student solar lights provided for the children of the rural Yanson Farm School near Mindora in the Philippines is 176 solar lights. 50 came from Diana and 126 more from CarpAM Rotary!

District News
2021 District 5240 Conference has been rescheduled to January 28 - 30, 2022
The 2021 District Conference dates have been changed. The conference will NOT be in October but rather we are looking at confirming dates at the end of January 2022 at a new location in Santa Barbara.

A recent directive from Rotary International headquarters advised us to withhold traveling or holding large events for Rotary until after December 31, 2021.
We have taken their lead and out of caution for everybody’s health, we’ve decided to push the Conference into the new year with the hope that over the next few months we'll see the pandemic curve be such that life can get back to some normalcy and we can then continue with the work at hand.

Member Spotlight

Shelby Donald

Shelby moved to Carpinteria in April 2021 with her husband Adam and Dog Stella. Adam's grandparents loved their golden years here in Carpinteria, and Adam enjoyed time spent on the bluffs and at The Spot with his grandparents. When given the opportunity for a move, aided by workplaces going virtual during the pandemic, Adam and I decided to sell our home in Long Beach CA, and rebuild a community here. Shelby and Adam were drawn to the slower pace of life, glorious mountains, beautiful beaches and the abundance of friendly, happy people! We are thrilled to be here.

Shelby had a physical therapy practice in Long Beach, which I have moved up here! My professional experience is in stroke rehabilitation, cancer care, Parkinson's disease and chronic pain management. Within the last 4 years, after getting certified to teach therapeutic yoga, I have begun to implement not just the physical recovery after/during an illness, but also the mental and spiritual health components of recovery.

To recharge, Shelby can be found taking fitness classes by the beach, hiking or backpacking in the beautiful backcountry mountains, tending to my flower garden or whipping up some food harvested from her home garden.

Welcome to the club Shelby!

Carpinteria Skateboard Park Fundraiser
On September 3, Beth Cox held a fundraiser at Island Brewing Company to raise funds for the building of the new Skateboard Park. Beth's fundraising efforts brought in $7,500 from the Island Brew event, but a total of $30,000 was collected through her efforts.
Great job Beth!

Carpinteria Calendars
The 18th edition of the Carpinteria calendars will soon be revealed! Details to come.

Each month showcases a beautiful Carpinteria landscape, captured by local photographers and community members, as well as accurate and unique Visual Tidal Charts specific to Carpinteria Tides. All proceeds benefit Carpinteria Community Non-Profit organizations and local community projects sponsored by the Carpinteria Morning Rotary Club.

Through Service projects, Rotary is changing the world one community at a time.
